About WhichCourt
What Is WhichCourt?
WhichCourt is a free volleyball tournament companion website for club volleyball parents, coaches, and fans. It answers the #1 question every volleyball parent asks at a tournament: “Which court?”
Beyond court assignments, WhichCourt provides national and regional rankings, opponent scouting reports, head-to-head history, win probability predictions, season analytics, and push notifications for match updates — all in one place.
The Origin Story
WhichCourt was born out of pure frustration. Picture this: it’s 6:30 AM on a Saturday morning. You’ve driven 90 minutes to a convention center. Your kid’s team is supposed to play at 8:00 AM, but you have no idea which court they’re on. The tournament schedule was emailed as a PDF the night before, but it’s formatted for a desktop screen and impossible to read on your phone. You’re squinting at tiny text, pinching and zooming, while hundreds of other parents do the exact same thing around you.
Then someone in the group text says the schedule changed. Now you need the updated PDF. You check your email, the tournament website, the AES app — nothing is updated yet. Meanwhile, your player needs to be warming up. So you do what every volleyball parent does: you wander the facility, scanning court numbers, asking other parents if they know where your team is.
That was the moment WhichCourt was conceived. Not in a boardroom. Not as a startup idea. In a convention center parking lot, by a frustrated parent who thought: “There has to be a better way to find out which court my kid is on.”
What started as a simple court-finder has grown into a full tournament command center — rankings, scouting, head-to-head analysis, push notifications, and more. But the core mission is the same: make tournament day easier for volleyball parents.
The Problem We Solve
Club volleyball parents currently juggle a ridiculous number of tools and information sources just to follow their kid’s tournament:
- The AES app — for official schedules and results, but the interface is designed for tournament directors, not parents
- PDF schedules — emailed or posted to a website, often formatted poorly for mobile, and sometimes outdated by the time you open them
- Group text chains — where someone always asks “which court are we on?” and someone else posts a screenshot of a PDF that nobody can read
- Separate ranking websites — to check national and regional rankings before a tournament
- Handwritten notes — to track opponents, scores, and bracket progression throughout the day
- Word of mouth — asking other parents for schedule changes, bracket updates, and results from other courts
WhichCourt replaces all of that with a single, fast, mobile-friendly experience. Find your team, see your court, check your opponent’s ranking, and get push notifications when your match is starting. That’s the idea.
How Rankings Work
WhichCourt displays national and regional rankings sourced from the USAV national ranking system. Rankings are calculated based on match results from sanctioned AES tournaments and updated weekly during the club season.
The ranking methodology considers multiple factors including win/loss record, strength of schedule (the quality of opponents faced), and head-to-head results. Teams that beat highly ranked opponents receive a larger ranking boost than teams that beat lower-ranked opponents. This means a team with a modest record against elite competition may be ranked higher than a team with an undefeated record against weaker opponents.
Rankings are broken down by gender and age group (10U through 18U) and are available at both the national level (all teams in the country) and the regional level (teams within the same USAV region). For more details, see our complete guide to understanding volleyball rankings.

By the Numbers
Free & Open
WhichCourt is free to use. No account is required for browsing tournaments, rankings, or team profiles. Signing in with Google unlocks favorites sync, preferences, and email updates.
The site is supported by voluntary contributions on Ko-fi and a small number of non-intrusive ads. We will never paywall features that are currently free.
What We Are Not
It’s important to be clear about what WhichCourt is not:
- Not affiliated with AES or SportsEngine — WhichCourt is an independent project that uses publicly available tournament data. It is not endorsed by or connected to Advanced Event Systems, SportsEngine, USA Volleyball, or any regional volleyball association.
- Not an official ranking authority — WhichCourt displays rankings from the USAV national ranking system. We do not create or influence rankings.
- Not a replacement for your tournament director — always defer to official tournament communications for schedule changes, rule clarifications, and facility information.
